Breaking a habit starts with courage and ends with...

I am your constant companion.
I am your greatest asset or heaviest burden.
I will push you up to success or down to disappointment.
I am at your command.
Half the things you do might just as well be turned over to me,
For I can do them quickly, correctly, and profitably.
I am easily managed, just be firm with me.
Those who are great, I have made great.
Those who are failures, I have made failures.
I am not a machine, though I work with the precision of a
machine and the intelligence of a person.
You can run me for profit, or you can run me for ruin.
Show me how you want it done. Educate me. Train me.
Lead me. Reward me.
And I will then...do it automatically.
I am your servant.
Who am I?
I am a habit.

The author of the above is unknown, but the words are right on target. If you make good habits, they in turn will make you. But like the weeds in the garden, bad habits can take over your life. Make a decision today to pull those weeds.

I also need to start a new one today, and finish off a couple

GOSH! 28th na ako :D

I really enjoyed my day even though I thought that it won’t. Anyway, my brother cooked carbonara for me & my mother-in-law prepared her potato salad, which was specially requested by my sissy.

I started my day by going to church with Coco & Twins, and this is a weekly thing not just because it’s my birthday. Anyway, Math & Marc loves going to Sunday School. At this time a couple of people greeted me already including my mom, of which I’m so thrilled I could cry for joy, because were not in good terms a few days before that. Then, we headed straight to SM Marikina to buy the ingredients and meet-up with my bro and his wife from work.

When we got home that’s when I realized that I left my bag at the baggage counter and before that I had a petty argument with Ninay (my lola-were okay now J), this is the point where I thought my day is going to be ruined.

So instead of taking the rest that afternoon Coco & I had to go back to SM City just to get my bag. After that he started to make me feel good by telling me that we can stop by the Department Store and check out stuffs that I might like which will be his gift to me, he really knows my weakness, hehehe. Anyhow, we ended up buying shoes for my twins instead but its okay.

Then the rest of the day was spent with our friends that we grew up with in the village. It was a crazy drinking spree but still sober since most of us have families of our own already. I also shared the celebration with my brother-in-law since we have the same birthdate.

Then, on the 15th I never really expected this but my team, The Thunderbolts, gave me a real surprise. They got me a cake, pancit, & a gift – it was a nice, spacious, brown bag – and I love it! Plus, I got a card from the Medix, the messages we’re really sweet, made me feel really good about myself, this is on top of the slice of cake that they gave me during the Medix Christmas Party.

With all that things that happened, I just realized now that the first person who greeted me was my ever thoughtful boss, GRACIE, she even sent flowers since she’s been out on maternity leave for almost 2 months now, she’s a supah sweet friend but strict boss, hehehe.

Thanks to everyone who remembered me, y’all just don’t know how much I appreciate the surprises & preparation that y’all took to make my day-s special.

Sa lahat ng wasak ang puso...

Subject: common sense :)

Ayon kay Bob Ong:

21. "Ang pag-ibig parang imburnal...nakakatakot mahulog...at kapag nahulog ka, it's either by accident or talagang tanga ka.."

Do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not

Why are some people more successful than others? Why do some people make more money, live happier lives and accomplish much more in the same number of years than the great majority?

I started out in life with few advantages. I did not graduate from high school. I worked at menial jobs. I had limited education, limited skills and a limited future.

And then I began asking, "Why are some people more successful than others?" This question changed my life.

Over the years, I have read thousands of books and articles on the subjects of success and achievement. It seems that the reasons for these accomplishments have been discussed and written about for more than two thousand years, in every conceivable way. One quality that most philosophers, teachers and experts agree on is the importance of self-discipline. As Al Tomsik summarized it years ago, "Success is tons of discipline."
Some years ago, I attended a conference in Washington. It was the lunch break and I was eating at a nearby food fair. The area was crowded and I sat down at the last open table by myself, even though it was a table for four.

A few minutes later, an older gentleman and a younger woman who was his assistant came along carrying trays of food, obviously looking for a place to sit.

With plenty of room at my table, I immediately arose and invited the older gentleman to join me. He was hesitant, but I insisted. Finally, thanking me as he sat down, we began to chat over lunch.

It turned out that his name was Kop Kopmeyer. As it happened, I immediately knew who he was. He was a legend in the field of success and achievement. Kop Kopmeyer had written four large books, each of which contained 250 success principles that he had derived from more than fifty years of research and study. I had read all four books from cover to cover, more than once.

After we had chatted for awhile, I asked him the question that many people in this situation would ask, "Of all the one thousand success principles that you have discovered, which do you think is the most important?"

He smiled at me with a twinkle in his eye, as if he had been asked this question many times, and replied, without hesitating, "The most important success principle of all was stated by Thomas Huxley many years ago. He said, 'Do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.'"

He went on to say, "There are 999 other success principles that I have found in my reading and experience, but without self-discipline, none of them work."

Self-discipline is the key to personal greatness. It is the magic quality that opens all doors for you, and makes everything else possible. With self-discipline, the average person can rise as far and as fast as his talents and intelligence can take him. But without self-discipline, a person with every blessing of background, education and opportunity will seldom rise above mediocrity.

"No stream or gas drives anything until it is confined. No Niagara is ever turned into light and power until it is tunneled. No life ever grows great until it is focused, dedicated and disciplined." ~Harry E. Fosdick

You are only on choice away from changing your life...

Think about that. One choice, just one, can change your life forever. Simply put, your life today is what your choices have made it, but with new choices, you can change directions this very moment. For me, that idea alone is highly motivational because it offers tremendous hope, regardless of circumstances, for a better tomorrow.

Your life-changing choice may be to switch careers, to leave an abusive relationship, to go back to school, to stop drinking, to adopt a child, to start a business, to lose weight, to start a charity...to name a few. If you have the courage to do so, you could make any one of those choices, or others, today. And you would change your life.

Sometimes it's a different kind of choice. It can be to not quit, to not give up in the face of adversity. We've all been there.

Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen received 77 rejections for their idea Chicken Soup for the Soul. They had to make a decision each time...should they throw in the towel and say enough is enough, or should they keep trying to pursue their dreams? You know the rest of the story. The 78th publisher said Yes and they went on to sell over 100 million books.

So never forget that you are only one choice away from changing your life. Do you have the courage to make it?

DuPont Acquires Coastal Training Technologies Corporation to Expand Safety Business Offering

Wilmington, DE, October 14, 2008

Will Build e-Learning and Training Capabilities for Global Customers

DuPont today acquired Coastal Training Technologies Corporation, a leading global producer and marketer of cutting-edge training programs, headquartered in Virginia Beach, Va. This transaction is expected to fuel significant growth for DuPont Safety Resources, a safety consulting business within the DuPont Safety & Protection segment. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The acquisition includes transfer of all customer agreements, patents, copyrights, brands, equipment and personnel. It will allow DuPont, an established global leader in industrial safety services programs, to provide a broader mix of delivery systems to a growing global audience. Coastal Training Technologies, with offices in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Brazil, India and the Philippines, will gain access to DuPont’s broad customer network for its extensive library of training products.

“Coastal is a dynamic and creative company that produces world-class training products,” said James R. Weigand, vice president and general manager, DuPont Safety Resources. “By combining their capabilities with our innovative science and safety experience, we will be able to address a wide range of client needs from consultative safety leadership to instructor-led training to e-learning based systems.”

The acquisition is part of the company’s strategy to expand its presence in emerging markets and safety industries. It complements DuPont’s current safety training and consulting business, creating a single-source training leader with the greatest variety of safety programs for companies, governments and organizations seeking training and consultation.

"One of the most exciting aspects of becoming part of DuPont is that we are joining a company that shares our long-held values regarding the importance of safety and improving people’s lives," said Paul Michels, founder and CEO of Coastal. "DuPont’s global commitment to protecting people and the environment, developing employees and running highly efficient operations is a perfect fit with Coastal’s mission."

According to a report issued by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), U.S. organizations alone spent approximately $50 billion on overall external training services in 2007. DuPont estimates the global market for safety training materials and programs at more than $600 million annually. E learning programs continue to be the fastest growing tools in the industry. Over a five-year period beginning in 2001, the use of technology-based programs nearly tripled -- growing from 11 percent to 30 percent.

DuPont Safety Resources offers customized consulting services and safety training materials and products that help clients improve workplace safety systems and operations. Hundreds of companies, government agencies and other organizations have substantially reduced their losses ― human suffering, financial, operational and corporate reputation ― and have significantly improved safety with the help of DuPont professional consulting services and safety training products. In addition to its consulting services, the business offers workplace safety and training materials, including the DuPont™ STOP™ program, which has helped thousands of employees at companies around the world prevent injuries and incidents for more than 25 years.

DuPont is committed to protecting people and provides solutions to meet safety needs. The DuPont Safety & Protection segment includes DuPont Advanced Fiber Systems, DuPont Nonwovens, DuPont Building Innovations, DuPont Chemical Solutions Enterprise and DuPont Safety Resources. In 2007, the division’s revenues totaled $5.6 billion.

Founded in 1984, Coastal Training Technologies Corporation has developed and markets an extensive offering of award-winning DVDs, e-learning products, print materials and instructor-led courses available in 29 languages. Among the company’s key brands are e-learning tools including ClarityNet® HD, Safe2Work, Hot Potato and Custom Course Creator (C3). About one-third of the company’s 600 employees reside in the United States.

DuPont is a science-based products and services company. Founded in 1802, DuPont puts science to work by creating sustainable solutions essential to a better, safer, healthier life for people everywhere. Operating in more than 70 countries, DuPont offers a wide range of innovative products and services for markets including agriculture and food; building and construction; communications; and transportation.

A simple lesson in managing stress

by Mac Anderson

When I was a freshman in college I learned an unforgettable lesson.

I was having a rough week when there was a lot to do and very little time to do it. I was overwhelmed. I panicked.

That night a friend stopped by my dorm room. When I told him my problem, he said, Mac, I'll share something with you that my grandmother told me a few years ago. She said to always remember:

Inch by inch, life's a cinch. Yard by yard, life is hard.

I said, Bob, come on. Here I am drowning in work and your lifeline is a quote from your grandmother. Come on!

After he left, however, those twelve little words kept dancing in my head. I took out a piece of notebook paper and listed all the things I had to do in the next three days. That night I began knocking them off one by one.

Three days later I took out that paper and marked through the last thing on the list. It felt great! And then I took out another piece of paper and wrote down the words: Inch by inch, life's a cinch. Yard by yard, life is hard. I then folded the paper and put it in my wallet. As many of you know, I've been collecting quotes ever since.

You see, success doesn't come cascading like Niagara Falls; it comes one drop at a time through

short-term, realistic goals.

Experts on motivation disagree on a lot of things, but one thing they all agree on is that your levels of motivation are directly tied to your expected probabilities of success. In other words, if you believe you can do something (the goals are realistic), you're likely to be highly motivated. If, however, you think you can't (because the goals are unrealistic) your motivation level falls greatly.

The lesson here is to continue to dream big dreams, but realize that the short-term goals that take you to the next plateau are the real keys to success.

To all the FASHIONISTAS out there...

...SOON!!!

In Pursuit of Happiness

One of the great truths of mankind, is through all of our suffering and failure we continue to seek happiness and contentment. We desire it, we dream of it, we hunger for it, and we plan for the day when we will finally be happy. Like the end zone on a football field we see happiness as a destination - a place we will get to someday when . . .

Today we work in jobs we hate, live mediocre lives, settle for average instead of great, remain in unfulfilled relationships, and avoid risk, all with the promise that someday we'll be happy. Yet, for most, that day never materializes. Like a mirage in the desert, our dream of happiness and contentment is always just out of reach. So we suffer on, waiting for one day when.

But what if happiness is not a destination and instead it is what we do, not what we get that makes us feel happy? I've found, through observation, that truly happy people are engaged in life. They have a mission and passion that drives them. They are enthusiastic because they have purpose. And their hunger for greatness and accomplishment in whatever they are doing generates feelings of contentment and well being.

I believe the essence of happiness is having an enthusiastic purpose that drives us each moment, hour, day, week, month and year. It is the combination of all of these moments together that create happy lives; and people who have discovered this secret part this world with no regrets, having squeezed out every drop of happiness on their journey.

When I present this concept to groups invariably someone will ask how in the world they can, or will, discover their purpose in life. And, of course, that is a question most of us secretly ponder. Finding our singular purpose seems daunting. Of course, there are those who have discovered a single purpose for their lives, and others, who, after years of drifting suddenly have an epiphany that launches them in a new direction. And while I think it is important and constructive to consider our greater purpose, most of us live in the real world, with real challenges like paying mortgages, putting food on our tables, educating and raising our children, and dealing with the day to day issues required to just survive. In this environment, having a singular purpose for our lives is a luxury that gets pushed to the side in our ongoing struggle just to survive.

So consider this, what if the key to happiness is not finding a singular purpose but rather leaving our unique imprint on whatever we do. Instead of looking for a message from heaven, we develop a hunger for greatness and a drive for excellence as a way of life, and we look for opportunity to leave our mark in small ways.
I believe that true happiness comes from finding purpose in our daily lives. Perhaps it is coaching youth soccer and making a positive impact on the lives of the kids on the team. Or maybe spending time with your daughter to teach her that anything is possible; or a commitment to be the best salesperson in your company or to give the very best service to your customers; or to be a sale leader who instills excellence in his people; or to improve your health so that you will have the energy to focus on your greater goals; or simply to make it your mission to become genuinely interested in other people and help them solve their problems.

I have found that people who set small goals and are committed to excellence in everything they do are happier, more content, more successful and are more willing to take risk that often leads to greater accomplishment. Instead of waiting for some day when, they focus their attention on now. They live in the moment. They treat mediocre and average as diseases and never settle for just getting by. They wake up every morning with the burning desire and hunger to be their very best. And step by step, day by day, they not only leave a legacy of excellence, and live happier more content lives, but also inspire those around them to wake up and live!
